The Ruhrakademie is a private educational institution in Schwerte , where communication design , art , photography , illustration , film acting and film directing can be studied.

history

It was founded in 1985 by Jürgen Störr and his wife Roswitha Störr, who are still in charge today. The Ruhr Academy, now over thirty years old, is one of the oldest and most successful privately sponsored academies in Germany. The students and graduates have been awarded numerous national and international prizes. Academy director Jürgen Störr has also taught at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal since 1977 and from 2009 to 2019 at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, which is located on the grounds of the "Zeche Zollverein" world cultural heritage site.

Since 1987 the Ruhrakademie has had its seat on the site of the listed castle "Haus Ruhr" , whose roots go back to a knight's seat in the 15th century. The buildings were designed for defense. The main house and the three outbuildings were rebuilt in the 18th century. After the Störr couple acquired the castle from Countess Von Stosch in 1987 with heritable building rights, it was renovated at considerable financial expense and expanded for the Ruhrakademie's studies. In the middle of the castle grounds is a horse chestnut tree that is more than 250 years old and is under conservation , the oldest in North Rhine-Westphalia . An envoy of Frederick the Great is said to have lost a chestnut from his saddlebag during a rest at Haus Ruhr, which he brought back from a mission in Persia. This was the hour of birth of the chestnut mother on home soil.

In addition to the technical content, this also includes general qualifications (see also key qualifications ). This direct reference to the future professional field is ensured by a teaching staff, which mainly consists of practitioners and a few scientists.
