Charles Case

Charles Case (born December 21, 1817 in Austinburg , Ashtabula County , Ohio , †  June 30, 1883 in Brighton , Iowa ) was an American politician . Between 1857 and 1861 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After studying law and being admitted to the bar, Charles Case began working in this profession in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He later embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party founded in 1854 . After the death of MP Samuel Brenton , he was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC at the by-election due for the tenth seat of Indiana , where he took up his new mandate on December 7, 1857. After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1861 . This time was determined by the events in the immediate run-up to the civil war . Case was not re-elected in 1860.

During the civil war that followed, Case was an officer in the Union Army between November 1861 and August 1862 . He rose to major. He then practiced as a lawyer in the federal capital Washington. Charles Case died in Brighton, Iowa on June 30, 1883. He was buried in the Washington Convention Cemetery.
