William E. Wilson
William Edward Wilson (born March 9, 1870 in Mount Vernon , Posey County , Indiana , † September 29, 1948 in Evansville , Indiana) was an American politician . Between 1923 and 1925 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .
Career
William Wilson attended the public schools of his home country and then Evansville Commercial College . At this school he later acted as a teacher and headmaster. Between 1888 and 1904 he was the owner of this educational institute. He then gave up school service to enter the insurance industry in Evansville. Between 1910 and 1912 he served as a deputy auditor in the administration in Vanderburgh County . From 1912 to 1920 Wilson was a bailiff at the local district court.
Politically, Wilson was a member of the Democratic Party . In 1920 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress . In the elections of 1922 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded Oscar R. Luhring on March 4, 1923 . Since he was defeated by Republican Harry E. Rowbottom in 1924 , he could only hold one term in Congress until March 3, 1925 .
After leaving the US House of Representatives, William Wilson worked in the banking industry. He later worked for the Chrysler Corporation . He died on September 29, 1948 in Evansville, where he was also buried.
