Edward A. Hannegan
Edward Allen Hannegan (* 25. June 1807 in Hamilton County , Ohio ; † 25. February 1859 in St. Louis , Missouri ) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ), of the state of Indiana in both houses of Congress represented .
Still in the year of Edward Hanne goose birth, his parents moved with him to the Bourbon County in the state of Kentucky . There he attended public schools, studied law and worked as a teacher and as an agricultural assistant. In 1827 he was inducted into the bar, after which he moved to Indiana. He lived there initially in Vincennes and Terre Haute before he settled permanently in Covington and began practicing law there.
He was also politically active in his new home. He sat in the Indiana House of Representatives from 1832 to 1833 , to which he later returned from 1841 to 1842. Between March 4, 1833 and March 3, 1837, Hannegan was a member of the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC . After initially working as a lawyer in Indiana again, he finally moved into the US Senate on March 4, 1843 , where he remained until March 3, 1849. Since his party did not nominate him again, he had to resign from Congress after one term. During his time in the Senate, among other things, he was Chairman of the Committee on Private Land Claims .
From June 30, 1849 to January 13, 1850, Edward Hannegan served as the United States' envoy to Prussia . Upon his return, he worked again as a lawyer in Covington until he moved to St. Louis in 1857. There he died two years later of a morphine overdose .
