Daniel Darwin Pratt (born October 26, 1813 in Palermo , Waldo County , Massachusetts , †  June 17, 1877 in Logansport , Indiana ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ) who represented the state of Indiana in the US Senate .

Born in what is now Maine , Daniel Pratt moved with his parents to New York State at an early age , where the family settled in Fenner . He attended public schools and a seminary school in Cazenovia before graduating from Hamilton College in Clinton in 1831 . In 1832 he moved to Indiana and worked there as a teacher. From 1834 he lived in Indianapolis and was employed there in the office of the Secretary of State . Eventually he went to law school , joined the bar and began practicing in Logansport.

In 1851 and 1853, Pratt was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives . In 1868 he was elected to the House of Representatives of the 44th  US Congress ; Before he took up this office, however, he resigned his mandate because he had been elected to the Senate in the meantime. He stayed there from March 4, 1869 to March 3, 1875. During this time, he was, among other things, chairman of the pension committee.

US President Ulysses S. Grant then appointed Pratt head of the Federal Tax Service ( Commissioner of Internal Revenue ). He held this office until 1876. The following year he died in Logansport.
