Maria Scherer

Maria Scherer (born November 11, 1902 in Mannheim ; † April 16, 1981 there ) was a German politician ( CDU ). In 1952 she was a member of the state parliament of Württemberg-Baden for three months .

Life

Scherer came from a large Christian family. After elementary school in Mannheim she completed an apprenticeship as a dressmaker and worked in this profession from 1919. She has been socio-politically active since her youth. In 1917 she was on the board of directors of the youth group of the Marian Congregation for the Virgin. In 1924 she was head of the Catholic workers' and craftsmen's association of Mannheim-West, then district manager of Mannheim and North Baden.

Political activity

She became a member of the center and was a member of the Mannheim executive board. After the Second World War she became a member of the CDU , for which she entered the Mannheim city council, of which she was a member until 1975. In 1948 she was elected to the state board of the CDU North Baden, until 1951 she was deputy state chairman. Since 1948 she was on the board of the women's working group of the CDU and since 1950 committee member of the emergency aid in Karlsruhe. In 1952 she moved to the state parliament of Württemberg-Baden until it was dissolved .

Honors

Scherer was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon in 1968 and the Ring of Honor of the City of Mannheim in 1976. After her death, Mannheimer Caritas named a senior citizen center after her.
