John Hanna (politician)

John Hanna (born September 3, 1827 in Indianapolis , Indiana , † October 24, 1882 in Plainfield , Indiana) was an American lawyer and politician .

Hanna studied law at Indiana Asbury University (now known as DePauw University ) in Greencastle . He graduated in 1850 and was admitted to the bar. Hanna practiced in Greencastle. From 1851 to 1854 he was mayor of the city. Then he moved to Kansas . There he belonged to the parliament of the territory in 1857 and 1858.

On his return to Indiana he was there from 1861 to 1869 as the successor to Daniel W. Voorhees federal attorney . He was elected as a Republican to Congress , where he represented the seventh constituency of the state of Indiana from March 4, 1877 to March 3, 1879 in the House of Representatives of the United States .
