George W. Rauch

George Washington Rauch (born February 22, 1876 in Huntington County , Indiana , †  November 4, 1940 in Marion , Indiana) was an American politician . Between 1907 and 1917 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Rauch attended the public schools in his home country and then studied at the Valparaiso Normal School , which later became the Valparaiso University . After studying law at the Northern Indiana Law School in Valparaiso and being admitted to the bar in 1902, he began working in this profession in Marion. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional elections of 1906 , Rauch was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eleventh constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded Frederick Landis on March 4, 1907 . After four re-elections, he was able to complete five legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1917 . In 1913 the 16th and 17th amendments were ratified. In 1916, Rauch was defeated by Republican Milton Kraus .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, he returned to practice as a lawyer. He was also a board member of Motor Securities Corporation and Davis Records Co. He served as president of the latter. Between 1930 and 1939 he was a bankruptcy administrator for banks ( bank receivers ) in Swayzee , Sheridan and Marion. From 1927 to 1933 George Rauch was also a member of the school committee in his hometown Marion. He died there on November 4, 1940.
