John C. Chaney

John Crawford Chaney (born February 1, 1853 in New Lisbon , Ohio , †  April 26, 1940 in Sullivan , Indiana ) was an American politician . Between 1905 and 1909 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1854, John Chaney came to Allen County , Indiana, with his parents as a toddler . The family later settled near Fort Wayne , where he attended public schools. In 1874 he graduated from the Ascension Seminary in Farmersburg . He later attended the Commercial College in Terre Haute . He then worked as a teacher and then as a school councilor for five years.

After studying law at the University of Cincinnati and his admission to the bar in 1883, he began working in his new profession in Sullivan. Politically, Chaney was a member of the Republican Party . Between 1889 and 1893 he worked for the US Department of Justice . In the congressional elections of 1904 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded Robert W. Miers on March 4, 1905 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1909 . In 1908 he was not re-elected.

After leaving the US House of Representatives, John Chaney practiced law again. Politically, he no longer appeared. He died on April 26, 1940 in Sullivan, where he was also buried.
