William H. Hudnut (1973)

William Herbert Hudnut III. (Born October 17, 1932 in Cincinnati , Ohio ; † December 17, 2016 in Chevy Chase , Maryland ) was an American politician .

Hudnut studied at Princeton University in Princeton and received his Bachelor of Arts in 1954 . He then attended Union Theological Seminary in New York City , where he received his Bachelor of Divinity in 1957. That year he was also ordained a Presbyterian pastor in Rochester . He was following in the footsteps of his father, who had attended the same seminary and was also a Presbyterian minister.

Hudnut was a member of the Indianapolis Public Safety Committee from 1970 to 1972 . He was elected as a Republican in the 93rd  Congress and represented there from January 3, 1973 to January 3, 1975 the eleventh constituency of the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives . In 1974, his attempt to be re-elected to the 94th Congress failed. From 1976 to 1991 Hudnut held the office of Mayor of Indianapolis. From 2004 to 2006 he was Mayor of Chevy Chase , Maryland .
