Robert BF Peirce

Robert Bruce Fraser Peirce (born February 17, 1843 in Laurel , Franklin County , Indiana , †  December 5, 1898 in Indianapolis , Indiana) was an American politician . Between 1881 and 1883 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Peirce attended public schools in his home country. At times he was also given private lessons. During the Civil War he was a lieutenant in an Indiana volunteer unit. He later continued his education at Wabash College in Crawfordsville . After a subsequent law degree in Shelbyville and his admission as a lawyer in 1866, he began to work in Crawfordsville from 1867 in this profession. He was elected district attorney for Montgomery County in 1868, 1870, and 1872 .

Politically, Peirce was a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1880 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded Abraham J. Hostetler on March 4, 1881 . Since he was not confirmed in 1882, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1883 . After leaving the US House of Representatives, Peirce practiced law again. He later was a bankruptcy administrator for the Toledo, St. Louis & Western Railway . Robert Peirce died on December 5, 1898 in Indianapolis and was buried in Crawfordsville.
