John Bradley "Brad" Ellsworth (born September 11, 1958 in Jasper , Indiana ) is an American politician . Between 2007 and 2011 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After high school, Brad Ellsworth studied sociology at Indiana State University in Evansville until 1981 . He later studied criminology at the same university. Ellsworth began a career in the police force. At first he was a simple policeman. He later became police chief in Vanderburgh County as sheriff . He held this office between 1999 and 2007.

Politically, Ellsworth joined the Democratic Party . In the 2006 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded the previously defeated Republican John Hostettler on January 3, 2007 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 2011 . There he was a member of the Agriculture Committee , the Armed Forces Committee and the Committee on Small Business, as well as a total of six sub-committees. He is considered very conservative and, among other things, was against abortion facilities and laws restricting private gun ownership.

In 2010, Ellsworth waived a possible re-election to the US House of Representatives in favor of running for the US Senate . With 40:55 percent of the vote, he lost significantly against Republican Dan Coats . He then became president of an energy company based in Evansville.
