Charles AO McClellan

Charles AO McClellan (born May 25, 1835 in Ashland , Ohio , †  January 31, 1898 in Auburn , Indiana ) was an American politician . Between 1889 and 1893 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles McClellan attended public schools in his home country. After a subsequent law degree in Auburn and in Waterloo and his admission as a lawyer in 1863, he began in Waterloo to work in this profession. From 1868 McClellan was also active in the banking industry. From 1879 to 1881 he served as a judge in the 40th Judicial District of Indiana.

Politically, McClellan was a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1888 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the twelfth constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded James Bain White on March 4, 1889 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1893 . From 1891 he was chairman of the Committee for the Control of Expenditures of the Ministry of the Navy .

In 1892 McClellan declined to run again. In the following years he practiced as a lawyer again and continued to work in the banking business. He died in Auburn on January 31, 1898 and was buried in Waterloo.
