Michael E. "Mike" Sodrel (born December 17, 1945 in New Albany , Floyd County , Indiana ) is an American politician . Between 2005 and 2007 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Mike Sodrel graduated from Indiana University . Between 1966 and 1973 he was a member of the National Guard. In business he worked for the family business Sodrel Truck Lines . He also founded his own company, Free Enterprise System Inc. , which is active in the field of passenger transportation.

Politically, Sodrel became a member of the Republican Party . In the 2004 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded Democrat Baron Hill on January 3, 2005 . Since he lost to Hill in 2006, he could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 2007 . There he was a member of the Agriculture Committee, the Transport and Infrastructure Committee and the Science Committee.

Sodrel was considered a more conservative MP; He was against further environmental protection laws and against a restriction of the right to private gun possession . He has been married since 1967.
