Marlin Stutzman

Marlin Andrew Stutzman (born August 31, 1976 in Sturgis , St. Joseph County , Michigan ) is an American politician . Between 2010 and 2017 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Marlin Stutzman attended Lake Area Christian High School in Sturgis and then Trine University in Angola, Indiana. He graduated from Glen Oaks Community College in Centerville . In the following years he worked as a farmer and businessman. He runs the Stutzman Farms Trucking company . Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party .

Between 2002 and 2008 he was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives ; in 2009 and 2010 he was a member of the State Senate . In 2010 he unsuccessfully sought the nomination for the US Senate elections , where he finished second in primary behind the eventual winner Dan Coats . After the resignation of Congressman Mark Souder , Stutzman was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC at the by-election due for the third seat of Indiana , where he took up his new mandate on November 2, 2010. At the same time he was elected to Congress for the legislative period beginning January 3, 2011; he prevailed with 63 percent of the vote against the Democrat Thomas Hayhurst. Stutzman was now a member of the Agriculture Committee , the Budget Committee and the Veterans Committee, as well as a total of four sub-committees. He later became a member of the finance committee. After two re-elections, he was able to take up another two-year term as Congressman on January 3, 2015. In 2016 he no longer ran. Instead, he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the US Senate . His term in Congress ended on January 3, 2017.

Marlin Stutzman has two children with his wife Payton.
