Pete Visclosky

Peter John "Pete" Visclosky (born August 13, 1949 in Gary , Indiana ) is an American politician . Since 1985 he has represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Pete Visclosky studied after his time at Andrean High School in Merrillville until 1970 at Indiana University Northwest in his birthplace Gary. After a subsequent law degree at the University of Notre Dame and his admission to the bar in 1973, he began to work in his new profession. In 1982 he completed his legal knowledge by studying at Georgetown University in Washington, DC

Politically, Visclosky joined the Democratic Party . He served on the staff of Congressman Adam Benjamin and was from 1977 to 1980 member of the management of the Grants Committee ( Committee on Appropriations ). Between 1980 and 1982 he was also a member of the management of the Budget Committee ( Committee on the Budget ).

In the 1984 congressional election , Visclosky was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the first constituency of Indiana, where he succeeded Katie Hall on January 3, 1985 . After 15 re-elections so far, he can still exercise his mandate in Congress today. Re-elected in 2016, he will also serve in the 115th Congress of the United States , which will meet on January 3, 2017 . His new legislative term runs until January 3, 2019 with the option of a further candidacy in 2018.

During his time as a congressman, the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan took place . Visclosky voted against the war in Iraq in 2002. He is a member of the Grants Committee and two sub-committees.

Pete Visclosky is married and has two sons.
