Jim Banks (born July 16, 1979 in Columbia City , Whitley County , Indiana ) is an American politician . Since January 3, 2017, he has represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jim Banks graduated from Grace College and then studied political science at Indiana University . Between 2008 and 2013 he was a director of the Hagerman Group construction company . He then founded his own company that is active in the field of public relations and business relations. In 2014 and 2015 he was a lieutenant in the United States Navy , where he was deployed in Afghanistan . He belonged to a unit that was responsible for supplies. To this day he is a member of the Navy Reserve. Banks has also been a real estate agent since 2013. He is also a member of numerous organizations and associations.

Politically, Banks joined the Republican Party . Since 2007 he has been the party chairman in Whitley County. In addition, he held or held several other regional party offices. He has served in the Indiana Senate since 2010 . There he was temporarily represented by his wife Amanda while he was serving in Afghanistan. Banks is considered to be very conservative. In the 2016 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in the 3rd constituency of Indiana in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Marlin Stutzman on January 3, 2017 , who had run for the United States Senate because of an unsuccessful candidacy was no longer started.
