Joseph Christopher "Chris" Chocola (born February 24, 1962 in Jackson , Michigan ) is an American politician . Between 2003 and 2007 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Chris Chocola attended Hillsdale College in Michigan until 1984 . He then studied law at the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing until 1988 . In the meantime he worked in the banking industry. Since 1988 he has worked as a consultant for CTB International in Milford , which markets agricultural products. He then worked in the company's administration and became its CEO in 1994 . In 2002, CTB was sold to Berkshire Hathaway , an investment company owned by billionaire Warren Buffett .

Politically, Chocola became a member of the Republican Party . In the 2002 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded Mike Pence on January 3, 2003 . After being re-elected, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 2007 . During this time the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan took place . Chocola was a member of the Agriculture Committee , the Committee on Transport and Infrastructure , the House Committee on Ways and Means and the Committee on Small Business . He was considered a supporter of President George W. Bush .

In 2006, Chocola was defeated by the Democrat Joe Donnelly . Since 2009, he has succeeded Pat Toomey as chairman of the Club for Growth , a conservative political action committee that primarily deals with financial matters.

Chris Chocola and his wife have a daughter and a son. In his private life he lives in Bristol .
