Charles L. Henry

Charles Lewis Henry (born July 1, 1849 in Green , Hancock County , Indiana , †  May 2, 1927 in Indianapolis , Indiana) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1899 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In his childhood, Charles Henry moved with his parents to Pendleton , where he attended public schools. He later studied at Asbury University , now DePauw University in Greencastle . After a subsequent law degree at Indiana University in Bloomington and his admission to the bar in 1872, he began to work in Pendleton in this profession. Since 1875 he lived in Anderson .

Politically, Henry was a member of the Republican Party . He was a member of the Indiana Senate in 1880, 1881, and 1883 . In the congressional elections of 1894 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of his state , where he succeeded William D. Bynum on March 4, 1895 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1899 . Since 1897 he represented the eighth District of Indiana as the successor to George W. Faris . During his time as Congressman, the Spanish-American War of 1898 fell .

In 1898 Charles Henry declined to run again. After leaving the US House of Representatives, he mainly dealt with the electrical railway system in inner-city areas. He later became President of the Indianapolis & Cincinnati Traction Co. Charles Henry died on May 2, 1927 in Indianapolis.
