William J. "Bill" Pascrell Jr. (born January 25, 1937 in Paterson , New Jersey ) is an American politician . Since 1997 he has represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives as an MP for the US Democrats .

Career

Bill Pascrell attended St. George's Elementary School and then St. John the Baptist High School . He then studied journalism at Fordham University in New York City until 1959 . This was followed by a degree in philosophy at the same university until 1961. In 1961 and 1962, Pascrell served in active military service in the United States Army . Until 1967 he was a member of their reserve. For twelve years after active military service, he worked as a high school teacher. Eventually he rose to professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University . At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1979 and 1982, Pascrell served on his hometown Paterson Education Committee; from 1988 to 1996 he was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly , where he temporarily led the Democratic Group. He was also Mayor of Paterson from 1990 to 1996.

In the 1996 congressional elections , Pascrell was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the eighth constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded William J. Martini on January 3, 1997 . As he was re-elected in all subsequent elections, including the one in 2016, he can continue to exercise his mandate today. His latest legislative term runs until January 3, 2019. Since 2013, he has represented the ninth congressional electoral district of his state in Congress. During his time as a congressman, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan fell . Pascrell is or was a member of the Budget Committee and the Committee on Ways and Means and its subcommittee on health. In previous legislative terms he was a member of the Internal Security Committee and the Transport Committee . He was committed to improving the infrastructure, especially in the area of ​​transport.

Bill Pascrell is married and lives privately in his hometown of Paterson.
