Christopher A. Bergen

Christopher Augustus Bergen (born August 2, 1841 in Bridge Point , Somerset County , New Jersey , †  February 18, 1905 in Haverford , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1889 and 1893 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Christopher Bergen attended the Harlingen School and the Edge Hill Classical School . In 1863 he graduated from Princeton College . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1866, he began to work in Camden in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party .

In the congressional elections of 1888 , Bergen was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded George Hires on March 4, 1889 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1893 . In 1892 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. After his time in the US House of Representatives ended, Bergen practiced law again. In 1903 he moved to Haverford, Pennsylvania, where he died on February 18, 1905.
