T. Millet hand

Thomas Millet Hand (born July 7, 1902 in Cape May , New Jersey , †  December 26, 1956 in Cold Spring , New Jersey) was an American politician . Between 1945 and 1956 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

T. Millet Hand attended public schools in his home country. After a subsequent law degree at the Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle ( Pennsylvania ) and his admission to the bar in 1924, he began to work in this profession in Cape May. Between 1924 and 1928 he was employed by the county council in Cape May County . He then worked as a public prosecutor in the same district from 1928 to 1933. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Hand was Mayor of Cape May between 1937 and 1944. From 1940 until his death he served as editor of the newspaper "Cape May Star and Wave". Hand also became a partner in real estate and insurance company Mecray-Hand Co.

In the 1944 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded Elmer H. Wene on January 3, 1945 . After five re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on December 26, 1956 . During this time, the end of World War II and the beginning of the Cold War, as well as the Korean War and the beginning of the civil rights movement, fell . In 1951 the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution was ratified. Millet Hand had been confirmed in his mandate in November 1956, but could not run the new legislative period on January 3, 1957 because of his death. After a by-election, his seat fell to Milton W. Glenn .
