Bonnie Watson Coleman
Bonnie Watson Coleman (born February 6, 1945 in Camden , New Jersey ) is an American politician . She has represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives since January 2015 .
Career
Bonnie Watson Coleman studied political science at Rutgers University . In 1985, when she was 40, she graduated from Thomas Edison State College . She held various positions in the state government. Between 1974 and 1980 she worked as a department head at the Ministry of Transport. There she headed a civil rights department. This was followed by activities in the Department of Community Affairs . Politically, she joined the Democratic Party . Between 1998 and 2014 she was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly . From 2006 to 2009 she headed the democratic group there. Between 2002 and 2006 she was also a member of her party's state executive.
In the 2014 congressional election , Watson Coleman was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the twelfth constituency of New Jersey , where she succeeded Rush D. Holt , who was no longer running, on January 3, 2015 . She won with 61:37 percent of the vote against the Republican Alieta Eck. Re-elected in 2016, she will also serve in the 115th Congress of the United States, which meets on January 3, 2017 . Your new legislative period runs until January 3, 2019 with the option of a further candidacy in 2018.
