Dow H. Drukker
Dow Henry Drukker (born February 7, 1872 in Sneek , Netherlands , † January 11, 1963 in Lake Wales , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1914 and 1919 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Even in his youth Dow Drukker came from his Dutch home in the United States, where the family in Grand Rapids ( Michigan settled). He attended the public schools in his new home and moved to Passaic , New Jersey in 1897 . There he worked, among other things, in the banking industry. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1906 and 1913 he was a member of the Passaic County county council and chaired it from 1908 to 1912.
After the death of MP Robert G. Bremner , Drukker was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on April 7, 1914. After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1919 . During this time the First World War fell . In 1918 he renounced another candidacy.
Between 1916 and 1963 Drukker published the newspaper "Herald-News of Passaic-Clifton". He had been president of Union Building and Investment Co. since 1909. In 1953 he supported the Netherlands after a storm surge . For his services in this matter, he was knighted by Queen Juliana of the Order of Orange-Nassau . Dow Drukker died on January 11, 1963 in Lake Wales and was buried in Paterson .
