Edwin B. Forsythe

Edwin Bell Forsythe (born January 17, 1916 in Westtown , Chester County , Pennsylvania , †  March 29, 1984 in Moorestown , New Jersey ) was an American politician . Between 1970 and 1984 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edwin Forsythe attended public schools in his home country. He then began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1948 and 1952 he was a member of the Board of Adjustment of the city of Moorestown. From 1953 to 1962 he was a local councilor and between 1957 and 1962 he was also mayor. At the same time Forsythe belonged to the City of New Jersey ( State League of Municipalities ). In 1962 and 1963, he chaired the Moorestown Planning Committee. Forsythe was a member of the New Jersey Senate between 1964 and 1970 , of which he was President in 1968. In 1966 he also worked on a commission to review the New Jersey Constitution; in August 1968 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Miami Beach , where Richard Nixon was nominated as a presidential candidate.

After the resignation of MP William T. Cahill , who moved to the post of Governor of New Jersey, Edwin Forsythe was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he was due for the by-election for the sixth seat of his state began his new mandate on November 3, 1970. After a total of eight re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on March 29, 1984 . Since 1983 he represented the 13th District of New Jersey as the successor to Jim Courter . During his time as a member of parliament, the end of the Vietnam War and the Watergate affair fell among other things . After his death, his mandate fell to Jim Saxton .
