William Coxe junior

William Coxe Jr. (born May 3, 1762 in Burlington , Province of New Jersey , †  February 25, 1831 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1813 and 1815 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Coxe embarked on a political career in New Jersey in the mid-1790s. He became a member of the Federalist Party founded by Alexander Hamilton at the end of that decade . From 1796 to 1804, from 1806 to 1809, and again from 1816 to 1817, Coxe was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly . From 1798 to 1800 and in 1802 he was its president.

In the congressional election of 1812 , Coxe was elected for the fifth seat of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded James Morgan on March 4, 1813 . By March 3, 1815, he was able to complete a legislative term in Congress that was shaped by the events of the British-American War . After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Coxe withdrew from politics. It was then that he was also known as an author. He died on February 25, 1831 in his native Burlington, where he was also buried.
