Edward Leo O'Neill (born July 10, 1903 in Newark , New Jersey , †  December 12, 1948 there ) was an American politician . Between 1937 and 1939 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward O'Neill attended the public schools in his home country and then served in the United States Navy from 1919 to 1923 . He then worked in real estate in his hometown of Newark. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1934 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress .

In the 1936 congressional election , O'Neill was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eleventh constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded Peter Angelo Cavicchia on January 3, 1937 . Since he was not confirmed in 1938, he could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1939, during which further New Deal laws were passed by the federal government.

In 1939 and 1940, O'Neill was a lieutenant in the United States Navy Reserve . During the Second World War he was a captain in the Quartermaster Corps of the United States Army in 1942 and 1943 . From 1940 to 1945 he served on the Essex County Tax Committee . He was also a broker in Newark. Edward O'Neill died there on December 12, 1948.
