John W. Hazelton

John Wright Hazelton (born December 10, 1814 in Mullica Hill , Gloucester County , New Jersey , †  December 20, 1878 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1871 and 1875 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Hazelton attended public schools in his home country and then worked in agriculture. In the 1850s he joined the Republican Party founded in 1854 . In 1856 and 1868 he was a delegate to the respective Republican National Conventions , at which John C. Frémont and later Ulysses S. Grant were nominated as presidential candidates.

In the congressional election of 1870 Hazelton was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the first constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded William Moore on March 4, 1871 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1875 . In 1874 he was not re-elected. After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, John Hazelton returned to farming. He died on December 20, 1878 near Mullica Hill.
