Samuel C. Forker

Samuel Carr Forker (born March 16, 1821 in Mount Holly , Burlington County , New Jersey , †  February 10, 1900 in Edgewater Park , New Jersey) was an American politician . Between 1871 and 1873 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Samuel Forker attended public schools in his home country. He later moved to Bordentown where he worked in the banking industry. There he was cashier and director of the Bordentown Banking Co. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1870 Forker was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded Charles Haight on March 4, 1871 . Since he was defeated by the Republican Samuel A. Dobbins in 1872 , he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1873 .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Samuel Forker worked again in the banking industry until 1890. He then retired, which he spent with his son in Delanco . He died on February 10, 1900 in Edgewater Park.
