Joseph George Minish (born September 1, 1916 in Throop , Lackawanna County , Pennsylvania , †  November 24, 2007 in Livingston , New Jersey ) was an American politician . Between 1963 and 1985 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Joseph Minish attended public schools in his home country and then Dunmore High School through 1935 . He served in the United States Army in 1945 and 1946 . From 1954 to 1960 he was the secretary of the CIO union in Essex County and western Hudson County . Between 1960 and 1962 he served as one of the directors of the AFL-CIO .

Politically, Minish was a member of the Democratic Party . In the 1962 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the eleventh constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded Hugh Joseph Addonizio on January 3, 1963 . After ten re-elections, he was able to complete eleven legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1985 . These were shaped by the events of the Vietnam War , the civil rights movement and the Watergate affair .

In 1984, Joseph Minish was not re-elected. After his time in the US House of Representatives, he withdrew from politics. He died on November 24, 2007 in Livingston, where he was also buried.
