James Sloan

James Sloan (* in New Jersey ; †  September 7, 1811 in Elmira , New York ) was an American politician . Between 1803 and 1809 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Neither Sloan's date of birth nor his exact place of birth have been recorded. There is also no information about his youth and school days. After that he worked in agriculture. He lived in the now defunct Newton Township, where he held various local offices for several years.

Sloan became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson . In the congressional elections of 1802 he was elected for the then newly established sixth seat of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took office on March 4, 1803. After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1809 . During this time, the Louisiana Purchase made by President Jefferson in 1803 fell . In 1804 the twelfth amendment was ratified.

In 1808 he renounced another candidacy. James Sloan died in Elmira on September 7, 1811.
