Albert L. Vreeland

Albert Lincoln Vreeland (born July 2, 1901 in East Orange , New Jersey , †  May 3, 1975 in Orange , New Jersey) was an American politician . Between 1939 and 1943 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Albert Vreeland attended public schools in his home country. In 1918 and 1919 he worked for the Red Cross as an ambulance driver. In 1919 Vreeland graduated from the New York Electrical School in New York City . He then attended the Peddie School in Hightstown until 1922 . After a subsequent law degree at the New Jersey Law School in Newark and his license to practice as a lawyer in 1927, he began to work in East Orange in this profession. Between 1929 and 1934 he worked as a lawyer for this city; from 1934 to 1938 he was a judge there. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party .

In the 1938 congressional election , Vreeland was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eleventh constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded Edward L. O'Neill on January 3, 1939 . After a re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 1943 . Further New Deal laws were passed there by the federal government under President Franklin D. Roosevelt by 1941 . Since 1941, the work of the Congress was also shaped by the events of World War II . While still serving as Congressman, he joined the War Department's intelligence service. Since 1942 he was an officer in an infantry unit. In the meantime, he had to suspend military service because a presidential decree prevented congressmen from actively participating in the war.

After he had renounced another candidacy in 1942, he was able to rejoin the Army after leaving the US House of Representatives and take part in World War II in the Pacific region. He rose to the rank of colonel. After the war, Albert Vreeland was a police officer in East Orange between 1945 and 1951. In 1945 and 1946 he also worked for the Celanese Corporation of America public relations . In addition, Vreeland practiced as a lawyer again. He died in Orange on May 3, 1975 and was buried in Bloomfield .
