Joseph E. Edsall

Joseph E. Edsall (* 1789 in Hamburg , Sussex County , New Jersey ; †  1865 there ) was an American politician . Between 1847 and 1849 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Neither the exact date of birth nor the date of death of Joseph Edsall have been recorded. He attended the public schools in his home country and then worked in commerce. He also ran a distillery and a tannery. Edsall also worked for the Sussex County county council and as an appeals judge. He also began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . His first major political office was that of MP in the New Jersey General Assembly .

In the congressional election of 1846 Edsall was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded John Runk on March 4, 1847 . Until March 3, 1849, he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . This was determined by the events of the Mexican-American War and its consequences. After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Joseph Edsall no longer appeared politically. He died in 1865 in his native Hamburg, where he was also buried.
