Vincent John Dellay (born June 23, 1907 in Union City , New Jersey , †  April 16, 1999 in Hasbrouck Heights , New Jersey) was an American politician . Between 1957 and 1959 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Vincent Dellay attended West New York High School , New York Evening High School, and the American Institute of Banking . Between 1923 and 1929 he worked for the New York City- based Irving Trust Co. , where he rose from messenger to accountant. He then worked between 1929 and 1936 in the auditing department of the Sterling National Bank & Trust Co. , also in New York City. From 1936 to 1956 Dellay was employed as an auditor with the Treasury Department of the State of New Jersey. This time was interrupted in 1944 and 1945 by his service in the United States Navy during World War II. From 1949 to 1960 he was also a member of the New Jersey National Guard.

Politically, Dellay was a member of the Republican Party at the time . In 1954 he ran for the US House of Representatives without success. In the congressional elections of 1956 he was then elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 14th  constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded T. James Tumulty on January 3, 1957 . During the next legislative term of Congress , John Dellay changed his party affiliation and became a member of the Democrats . In 1958 he ran unsuccessfully for his nomination for re-election. He left the US House of Representatives on January 3, 1959.

After serving in the US House of Representatives, Vincent Dellay worked in the field for the Treasury Department of his state until he retired in 1971. He died on April 16, 1999 in Hasbrouck Heights and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery , Virginia .
