Frederick Halstead Teese

Frederick Halstead Teese (born October 21, 1823 in Newark , New Jersey , †  January 7, 1894 in New York City ) was an American politician . Between 1875 and 1877 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Frederick Teese attended Princeton College until 1843 . After a subsequent law degree and his license to practice law, he began to work in this profession in Newark. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1860 and 1861 he was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly , of which he was president in 1861, succeeding Austin H. Patterson . Between 1864 and 1872 he served as a judge on the Essex County Court of Appeals .

In the congressional election of 1874 Teese was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded Marcus Lawrence Ward on March 4, 1875 . In 1876 he decided not to run again for Congress. So he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1877 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Teese practiced as a lawyer again. He died in New York on January 7, 1894 and was buried in Newark.
