Steven R. "Steve" Rothman (born October 14, 1952 in Englewood , New Jersey ) is an American politician . From 1997 to 2013 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Steve Rothman attended Tenafly High School until 1970 . He then studied until 1974 at Syracuse University in New York State . After studying law at the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis and being admitted to the bar, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1983 and 1989, Rothman served as Mayor of Englewood. From 1993 to 1996 he served as a judge on the Bergen County 's Surrogate Court .

In the congressional elections of 1996, Rothman was in the ninth constituency of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC chosen, where he succeeded the most in the January 3, 1997 Senate exchanged Robert Torricelli took. He was re-elected seven times, most recently in 2010 with 61 percent of the vote.
