Herbert C. "Herb" Klein (born June 24, 1930 in Newark , New Jersey ) is a former American politician . Between 1993 and 1995 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Herb Klein attended Hillside High School until 1947 and then studied at Rutgers University in New Brunswick until 1951 . After a subsequent law degree at Harvard University and his license to practice law in 1953, he began to work in this profession in Clifton . Klein served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1956 . He then studied at New York University in New York City until 1957 . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1980 and 1985 he was Mayor of Clifton. From 1971 to 1976, Klein was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly . Between 1977 and 1981 he was the executive director of the Passaic County Democrats .

In the 1992 congressional election , Klein was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the eighth constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded Robert A. Roe on January 3, 1993 . Since he was not confirmed in 1994, he could only complete one term in Congress until January 3, 1995 . After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Herb Klein no longer appeared politically.
