William HF Fiedler

William Henry Frederick Fiedler (born August 25, 1847 in New York City , †  January 1, 1919 in Newark , New Jersey ) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1885 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

While still a child, William Fiedler came to Newark with his parents, where he attended public schools. He later worked as a hatter and in the men's clothing industry. He also began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . He served on Newark City Council in 1876 and 1878; from 1880 to 1882 he was mayor of this city. Between 1878 and 1879 and in 1882 Fiedler was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly .

In the congressional elections of 1882 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded Phineas Jones on March 4, 1883 . Since he was defeated by the Republican Herman Lehlbach in 1884 , he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1885 . Between 1886 and 1889 William Fiedler acted as a postman in Newark. He also carried out his previous activities until 1905. He then got into the real estate business and banking. He died in Newark on January 1, 1919.
