The Ravenna railway station is the station of the Italian city of Ravenna . It is operated by the Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), an organizational unit of the Ferrovie dello Stato . From 2001 to 2018, the Centostazioni company was responsible for marketing and leasing the retail space . The station serves long-distance and regional traffic.

history

The station was opened on August 23, 1863 at the same time as the Castelbolognese – Ravenna line. On the following day, regular passenger trains began operating. The reason for the opening of this line was the connection from Ravenna's port to the Italian railway network.

In 1884 the station became the end of the line from Cervia , which was extended to Argenta in 1889 and has since been part of the Ferrara – Rimini line .

In 1921 a third railway line was added, the one to Faenza , which, however, runs parallel to the one to Castelbolognese as far as Russi.

Plant and reception building

The facility comprises 10 platform tracks, on which the traffic is handled. The reception building is located on Piazzale Farini and is two-story with a reddish facade. Since Centostazioni took over management, retail stores have opened up in the station in addition to the FS facilities.

A plaque in the entrance building commemorates the 31 Jewish citizens deported from the Ravenna train station in January 1944. A second plaque on the outer wall of the building facing the tracks commemorates the stay in the Ravenna train station on October 19, 1943 of the train coming from Rome with 1,043 Jews who were deported to Auschwitz three days earlier as a result of the raid carried out by the SS in Rome were.

traffic

Although the station is off the main line Milan – Bologna – Rimini – Lecce, there is a lot of passenger traffic on the three railway lines serving Ravenna. The three lines also connect to some extent the city of Castelbolognese, Faenza and Rimini with the main line. Long-distance trains also serve the station, they are generally run from Rimini. Operational traffic is the responsibility of Trenitalia and FER .

Long-distance transport

Eurostar Italia trains run daily from Ravenna to Rome:

In the holiday season, this offer is supplemented by further Eurostar offers to Rome, as well as InterCityNotte trains and Eurostar City trains, which run from Milan and Bologna via Castelbolognese and Ravenna to Rimini and Ancona, respectively.

Regional traffic

Regional and regional express trains run by Trenitalia and FER leave Ravenna. They operate on all three railway lines to Faenza, Castelbolognese, Bologna (via Castelbolognese), Rimini and Pesaro.

Freight transport

Due to its proximity to the port, the station also plays an important role in freight traffic, here mainly goods are unloaded to the quadrant Europe .
