The Ferrovie Emilia Romagna (FER) are a regional transport companies in the Italian region Emilia Romagna .

The company operates a 354 km long network that was created through the ongoing takeover of a number of private companies. The FER also operate some train connections of regional importance on the routes of the state-run Rete Ferroviaria Italiana .

history

Ferrovie Emilia Romagna was founded on January 1st, 2001. They took over the functions of four former commissioner companies:

• Ferrovia Bologna-Portomaggiore (FBP)
• Ferrovia Parma-Suzzara (FPS)
• Ferrovia Suzzara-Ferrara (FSF)
• Ferrovie Padane (FP)

On January 21, 2013, Stadler Rail and AnsaldoBreda handed over the first of 32 FLIRT multiple units to Ferrovie Emilia Romagna. Two diesel multiple units have also been ordered, the total order volume is 200 million euros and there is an option for 20 more FLIRTs and GTWs .
