FER route to Reggio Emilia

The Modena – Sassuolo railway is an Italian standard-gauge branch line .

The single-track line is operated by Ferrovie Emilia-Romagna and is electrified with 3 kV direct current .

history

The line was opened on April 1, 1883 as a 950 mm narrow-gauge railway without intermediate stops. In 1932 it was converted to standard gauge and electrified.

traffic

Today, the route serves exclusively regional traffic operated by TPER . An integrated train and bus service is offered, which runs together every hour. In the rush hour, the frequency is compressed to half an hour. On Sundays and public holidays the trains will be replaced by buses.

Train crossings are scheduled to take place in the Modena piazza Manzoni and Formigine stations.

Former Belgian electric multiple units of the AM 54 series , which are designated as ALe 228 , are used. From June 2016, two sets of the ALe 582 series are to be added to replace the older railcars.
