The Vossloh G 2000 BB locomotive is the most powerful diesel-hydraulic locomotive from Vossloh Locomotives GmbH and has been in production since 2000. Your wheel alignment is B'B '. It has an output of up to 2700 kW and, depending on the engine, reaches a maximum speed of up to 140 km / h. Depending on the equipment variant, it has a service weight of 84 t to 90 t. It achieves a starting tractive effort of 283 kN at 87.3 t. The tank volume is 5000 l.

The G 2000 BB is approved in Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Sweden, Denmark and Poland. The series numbers 92 80 1253, 1272 (G 2000-3) and 1273 (G 2000-1) have been assigned in the German Vehicle Settings Register.

There are a total of five variants of the locomotive:

  • G 2000 (-1) BB: asymmetrical driver's cab, 2240 kW (21 units)
  • G 2000-2 BB: symmetrical driver's cab, 2240 kW, for Italy (30 pieces)
  • G 2000-3 BB: symmetrical driver's cab, 2240 kW, for Germany (48 units)
  • G 2000-4 BB: symmetrical driver's cab, 2700 kW (1 piece)
  • G 2000-5 BB: symmetrical driver's cab, 2700 kW, for Scandinavia (1 piece)

While the wider driver's cab was initially only intended for the Italian version because of the mandatory accompanying man and the left-hand drive there, it was also retained in the third version for traffic in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and France, but with the steering position on the right-hand side.

The locomotives are sold in Italy by SBB Cargo (three locomotives as the Am 840 series, sold to the track construction company Scheuchzer in September 2013 ) and a subsidiary of DB Cargo Deutschland (one locomotive of subtype 2) and in the Netherlands by Rail4chem (two type 1, eight type 3) are used. Some copies are used by the ports and goods traffic Cologne . The locomotives can also be found on various smaller private railways, especially in northern Italy and the German Ruhr area.

The locomotives of the locomotive rental company MRCE are painted completely in black with a white contrasting bar on the front. The locomotive 21 of the Westfälische Landeseisenbahn (WLE) carries a full advertisement for the Westphalian Warsteiner brewery.

There are a total of 99 types 1–3 locomotives and one type 4 and 5 each.

Hector Rail

The prototype of the G 2000-5 (941.001, "Morricone") was sold to the Swedish railway company Hector Rail in 2006, as was the G 2000-4 (941.102, "Leone") in 2008

Constructive features

The locomotives have a load-bearing frame with attached front shields as collision protection. There is an end driver's cab on both sides, either asymmetrical, with a slightly coiled entrance (type 1) or across the entire width of the vehicle. Towards the end, the driver's cab is slightly drawn in; it also becomes a little narrower upwards from the lower edge of the window. The driver's cab is accessed from behind via the circulation. The modular machine room does not extend over the entire width, so that there is space on both sides for a circuit with railings. In the area of the two radiator towers there are large ventilation grilles on the side and in the roof. The locomotive complies with the low profile UIC 505-1. The bogies used are two-axle Flexicoil bogies with wheelset control arms, like those used in the other “fourth generation” types from Vossloh. As a rule, a four-stroke Caterpillar 3616 B-HD engine with 2240 kilowatts is installed. Due to the high output, it is not possible to install a turbo reversing gear , so a hydraulic Voith gear with a mechanical reversing gear is used, which can only be operated when the vehicle is stationary.
