The Scheuchzer SA is a Swiss track construction companies and manufacturers of railway equipment in Bussigny , Vaud .

The company operates its track construction vehicles mainly in Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, France and Italy.

history

The company's existence dates back to 1917 when Charles-Auguste Scheuchzer (1878–1960) bought a factory in Renens in order to be able to build his developments. August Scheuchzer was a pioneer in the mechanization of railway maintenance and in the 1920s he developed the first machines designed for track maintenance (a weeding machine in 1921, a ballast cleaning machine in 1927 and a tamping machine in 1931 ), which were manufactured and sold by his company. In 1956, August Scheuchzer received an honorary doctorate from the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne for his work . In 1934 he sold the factory and the patents, but kept selling his products in Switzerland. The company was re-acquired by his two sons in 1947 and continued as "Les Fils d'Auguste Scheuchzer SA, Lausanne". It was later renamed “Scheuchzer SA” and “Scheuchzer SA”, and in 2003 the company's headquarters were relocated from Lausanne to Bussigny, where the workshops and maintenance facilities had been located for a long time.

Vehicle developments

The company developed track renewal trains at an early stage, which enable work to be carried out without the neighboring track being blocked. These developments continued, so today vehicles are also being developed that allow maintenance to be carried out on high-speed lines without speed restrictions on the neighboring track. This also includes the staging of work that enables the route to be reopened during the day - albeit with a reduction in speed. Intermittent construction work is almost unavoidable today on heavily used track systems. With the track renewal trains “Puscal” and “Puma”, one track yoke can each be lifted out and the entire substructure or superstructure replaced in the relevant section . However, after the track yoke has been reinserted, it is possible that the construction site will be completely cleared and the next track section can only be worked on in the following shift. This without the need for a road or a construction runway next to the track, as all material can be brought in and out of the track.

Another field of activity are grinding trains . This development led to today's self-propelled grinding trains with several grinding heads, which make it possible to machine all sides of the rail head in one operation. With the MRK-W there is a grinding machine that enables turnouts to be ground fully automatically.

In the case of grading and tamping machines, vehicles are generally not developed in-house today; these machine types are obtained from the manufacturers Matisa and Plasser & Theurer .
