Substructure (railway)

The term substructure refers to the entirety of the structures that absorb the forces from the superstructure or the track bed . In addition to the spatial shapes of the earth's body (same terrain, dam , incision and cut), this also includes a number of engineering structures (e.g. retaining walls , wing and lining walls , bridges , overpass structures and culverts ). All of these substructures have one main task: the safe absorption of all loads from the superstructure resting on them. In the case of earth bodies, the area on which the superstructure is applied is called the planum . For safe removal of theIn surface water , the planum is roof-shaped or inclined at a ratio of 1:20.
