Clement Hall Sinnickson

Clement Hall Sinnickson (born September 16, 1834 in Salem , Salem County , New Jersey , †  July 24, 1919 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1875 and 1879 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Clement Sinnickson was the great-nephew of Congressman Thomas Sinnickson (1744-1817). He attended private schools and the Polytechnic Institute in Troy , New York State . In 1855 he graduated from Union College in Schenectady . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1858, he began to work in this profession in Salem. During the civil war he was a captain in the Union army .

Politically, Sinnickson joined the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1874 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded John W. Hazelton on March 4, 1875 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1879 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again. In 1880, Sinnickson was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Chicago , where James A. Garfield was nominated as a presidential candidate. From 1896 he served as an appeal judge. He was reappointed to this office in 1901 and 1906. He died on July 24, 1919 in his native Salem, where he was also buried.
