Rodney Procter Frelinghuysen (born April 29, 1946 in New York City ) is an American politician . Since 1995 he has represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Rodney Frelinghuysen is a member of a well-known family of politicians. His father Peter Frelinghuysen (1916–2011) was also a member of Congress . His ancestors include Foreign Minister and US Senator Frederick T. Frelinghuysen (1817–1885) and US Senator Theodore Frelinghuysen (1787–1862).

He attended Hobart College in Geneva ( New York ) until 1969 . He then studied at Trinity College in Hartford ( Connecticut ). Between 1969 and 1971 Frelinghuysen served in the US Army . He was used in Vietnam . In 1972 he was the federal and state aid coordinator in Morris County . From 1974 to 1983 he was a member of the local district council, of which he was chairman in 1980. He was then a member of the New Jersey State Budgeting Commission. Politically, Frelinghuysen joined the Republican Party . Between 1983 and 1994 he was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly .

In the 1994 congressional election , Frelinghuysen was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the eleventh constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded the late Dean Gallo on January 3, 1995 . As he was re-elected in all subsequent elections, including the one in 2016, he can continue to exercise his mandate today. Its latest legislative period runs until January 3, 2019. Frelinghuysen is or was a member of the Approval Committee and three sub-committees. During his time as a congressman, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan fell .

Rodney Frelinghuysen has been married to Virginia Robinson since 1980. The family lives in Harding in northern New Jersey.
