Herbert Worthington Taylor (born February 19, 1869 in Belleville , New Jersey , †  October 15, 1931 in Newark , New Jersey) was an American politician . Between 1921 and 1927 he represented the state of New Jersey twice in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Herbert Taylor attended public schools in his home country. After a subsequent law degree at the City University of New York and his admission to the bar in 1891, he began to work in this profession in New York City . From 1897 he also practiced in Newark. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1899 and 1903 he was a member of the Newark City Council; in 1904 and 1905 he was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly . From 1913 to 1917 Taylor served as Republican Party leader in Essex County . In June 1916 he took part as a delegate at the Republican National Convention in Chicago , at which Charles Evans Hughes was nominated as a presidential candidate. From 1916 to 1921 he served as county counsel for the county government in Essex County.

In the congressional elections of 1920 Taylor was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded Cornelius Augustine McGlennon on March 4, 1921 . Since he was not nominated for re-election by his party in 1922, he was initially only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1923 . After that he worked as a lawyer again. In 1924 he was re-elected to Congress, where he replaced Frank Joseph McNulty on March 4, 1925 , who had succeeded him two years earlier. In 1926, Taylor was not re-elected. Therefore, he had to leave the Congress on March 3, 1927.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Herbert Taylor worked again as a lawyer in Newark, where he died on October 15, 1931.
