George R. Robbins

George Robbins Robbins (born September 24, 1808 in Allentown , Monmouth County , New Jersey , †  February 22, 1875 in Hamilton Square , New Jersey) was an American politician . Between 1855 and 1859 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Robbins received a good education. After a subsequent medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and his approval as a doctor in 1837, he began to work in Falsington ( Pennsylvania ) in this profession. In the same year he moved to Hamilton Square, New Jersey, where he continued to practice medicine. In the 1850s he began a political career as a member of the short-lived Opposition Party .

In the congressional elections of 1854 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded Charles Skelton on March 4, 1855 . After a re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1859 . These were determined by the events leading up to the civil war . The main issue was slavery . During his first legislative term, Robbins moved to the Republican Party , founded in 1854, and was re-elected as its candidate in 1856.

In 1858, Robbins decided not to run again. After his time in the US House of Representatives, he worked as a doctor again. He died in Hamilton Square on February 22, 1875.
