Thomas Newbold

Thomas Newbold (born August 2, 1760 in Springfield , Burlington County , Province of New Jersey , †  December 18, 1823 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1807 and 1813 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thomas Newbold initially worked in agriculture as a young man. He also began a political career as a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson . In 1797 he was elected to the New Jersey General Assembly . At that time Newbold also got into the banking industry.

In the congressional election of 1806 he was elected for the second seat of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Ebenezer Elmer on March 4, 1807 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1813 . During this time the British-American War began in 1812 . In 1812, Newbold was not re-elected.

From 1820 to 1822 Thomas Newbold was once again a member of the New Jersey state parliament. He died on December 18, 1823 in his native Springfield.
