John T. Dunn

John Thomas Dunn (born June 4, 1838 in Tipperary , Ireland , †  February 22, 1907 in Elizabeth , New Jersey ) was an American politician . Between 1893 and 1895 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1845, John Dunn and his father came to New Jersey from their Irish homeland. He was first homeschooled. From 1862 he worked as a businessman. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1878 he was a councilor in Elizabeth; from 1879 to 1882 he was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly , of which he was president in 1882. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1882, he began to work in this profession in Elizabeth.

In the congressional election of 1892 Dunn was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the then newly created eighth constituency of New Jersey , where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1893. Since he was not confirmed in 1894, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1895 . After his time in the US House of Representatives ended, Dunn practiced law again. He died in Elizabeth on February 22, 1907.
